Terms and Conditions of Sauna Use

Sauna is a relaxing and enjoyable experience but it is very important to check the below information to make sure it is a safe experience for you and your group.

If you are making this booking on behalf of a group, it is your responsibility to make all users aware of the terms and conditions and to practice safe sauna use.

All persons using the sauna, do so at their own risk.

Our sauna takes place in natural environments, where there is uneven and wet surfaces, please take care when walking around.

You must not use the sauna if you suffer from high or low blood pressure or any heart or circulatory disorder or suffer from epilepsy or diabetes; are pregnant; or are prone to dizziness or fainting.

If you have any reservations regarding sauna use, such as medical conditions, underlying health problems, the use of prescription drugs or pregnancy, it is essential that you consult your GP before making a booking.

Medical Safety:

Please seek medical advice before coming if any of the following apply:

  • You’re taking regular prescription or over the counter drugs.

  • You’re pregnant or suspect you are.  (Most pregnant women avoid coming in the first trimester)

  • You have any cardiovascular conditions or are taking blood pressure medications  

  • You have a pacemaker or defibrillator.  

  • Have any severe allergies.

  • You’ve had a heart attack in the last 6 months 

  • You have a recent joint injury, or you have joints that are chronically swollen.

  • You have metal pins, rods, artificial joints or any other surgical implants

  • Have any chronic underlying medical condition

  • Kindred sauna cannot accept responsibility for customers with the above conditions or in the above situations.

Sauna etiquette and safe behaviour must be always adhered to. These include:

Dress code:

1.    Swimwear must be worn during all our sauna sessions, private or communal saunas.

2.    Removing shoes/sandals/flipflops prior to entering the sauna.

3.    To prevent burning, jewellery and metals should be removed before entering the sauna.

4.    You must sit on a clean towel.

5. Sauna is not recommended if you have fake tan or home hair dye within 48hrs of application.

In the sauna:

Exposure to hot equipment, slippery surfaces, hot & cold temperatures is done so at your own risk 

1.    Entering and exiting the sauna in a safe manner.

2.    Keeping access points clear to allow other users to exit safely and swiftly if needed.

3.    You must sit on a clean towel.

4.    Sauna sessions of no longer than 15-20 min at a time, followed by a cool off with shower.

5.    Do not touch any part of the stove / stove cage or rocks. These are extremely hot and would cause a burn. The sauna attendant will manage the fire.

6.    Alcohol and smoking are not permitted in the sauna.

7.    Pour water onto hot rocks slowly.

8.    Only pouring the provided ‘sauna water’ on hot rocks. Nothing else.

9.    Do not use any personal products, salt scrubs or oils in the sauna, only those provided by Kindred sauna.

Your belongings:

Kindred Sauna takes no responsibility for the damage or loss of customers’ property.

We offer areas to place your belongings, please do not bring any valuables.

Cold plunges

All persons using a body of water as a ‘cold plunge’ do so at their own risk.

The wild swimming pond is unsupervised and you enter the water at your own risk. The Knepp estate allow our sauna customers to use their beautiful natural swimming pond. This is used entirely at your own risk as it is unsupervised. You are responsible for your own safety. It is advisable always to use the pond accompanied and to shower afterwards.

The pond water is tested weekly for safety. Occasionally the pond may be closed by Knepp, for maintenance or if tests show water quality is poor. In these circumstances we inform our customers but we do not offer a refund, reschedule only.

It is your own responsibility to ensure that you are a capable swimmer and can handle being exposed to the cold temperatures, lake depths, tides and rip currents and other dangers of a body of water.

General information:

1.    No children under 16 are allowed in the sauna, this is due to the terms of our insurance.

2.    We reserve the right to refuse admission to intoxicated persons or for other reasons that may be deemed a health and safety risk.

3. The sauna is a democratic space.  If anyone is disturbing your enjoyment in the sauna please talk to that person and agree with each other on a mutually agreeable level of behaviour, thank you.

4.    If anyone is deemed to be acting against the sauna terms of use we reserve the right to ask them to leave for their own safety and that of other sauna users.
